Yummies in a Jar

Christmas never tasted so good…

When it comes to good food – and good local food at that – Muskoka can certainly hold its own. Spurred on by a surge of interest in healthy, wholesome and tasty food, growers, producers and restaurants across the region are offering ever more interesting fare to satisfy the appetites of visitors.

One of the longest established of these purveyors of fine foods is Baysville-based Yummies in a Jar. Established in Lake of Bays in 1992 by Lynn Murden, Yummies (as it’s affectionately known) now offers over 60 varieties of gourmet foods and other locally made products, including:

  • Liquor jams and dessert toppings made with real liqueurs and spirits
  • Condiments, including pepper and herb jellies
  • Oil free vinaigrette dressings, marinades, and dipping sauces
  • Flavored maple syrups enhanced with pureed fruit or spirits

Customized gift baskets can also be assembled including your favourite Yummies’ items.

Murden’s zest for experimentation in the kitchen has led to a devout following, and her custom-made gift boxes and baskets – along with the vast majority of her delicious products – regularly wing there way around the country. Everything is handmade and hand-packaged in the Yummies kitchen where each product is prepared in small, individual batches using only the finest of ingredients.

Yummies in a Jar Make Great Gifts

Visitors to cottage country, too, are also avid purchasers of her products, many of whom will purchase Yummies’ treats as souvenirs for their loved ones and friends. Yummies in a Jar products are available at select Ontario retailers including the Shipyards in Gravenhurst, the Algonquin Art Centre in Algonquin Park, and Robinson’s General Store in Dorset, to name but a few. You’ll also find Yummies products at craft shows and farmer’s markets across Muskoka.

You can also buy directly from the 2,000 sq ft gallery just outside Baysville which Murden shares with husband and artist John Murden (the gallery is open year-round). During the warmer months (from May to October) you can buy direct from the Yummies in a Jar store located on the quaint main street of Baysville. Products can also be purchased by mail order.
